The Penkhull Festival - 2017

Thursday 21st September

7.30pm Play it again Mr Bennett - 2017 celebrates the 150th anniversary of local author - Arnold Bennett. This evening of words from Ray Johnson and piano music from Robert Thompson. The music will include performances of Ravel, Havergal Brian and Debussy.

Friday 22nd September

1.00pm Free lunchtime performance by talented pupils from Newcastle-under-Lyme School - including the presentation of the May Walley annual award
Venue: St Thomas's Church
2.00pm - 3.30pm Members of Voces8 will present a lively singing workshop for pupils from invited local primary schools
Venue: Penkhull Village Hall
7.20pm British vocal ensemble Voces8 is now established as one of the world's most versatile and best-loved singing groups. The ensemble performs repertoire from Renaissance polyphony to contemporary commissions and arrangements. They will explore a rich and diverse collection of choral music inspired by dance. From chapels and courts to cinema and clubs, the concert will include music from Byrd, Britten and Stanford to Nat King Cole, Duke Ellington and Simon and Garfunkel.

Saturday 23rd September

10.00am - 12.00pm Come and join us for a fun singing workshop for adults with members of Voces8
Venue: Penkhull Village Hall
7.30pm Our final event is a very special evening celebrating the life of Mandy Hallam. Music was at the root of everything she did in her life and career, and she played regularly with the Enigma String Quartet. The Swansea Bach Choir joins forces with the Enigma String Ensemble - conducted by Greg Hallam. The concert will include performances of Handel's Dixit Dominus, J S Bach's Jesu, meine Freude and the music of James MacMillan.

Our Artist in Residence - Rob Pointon

Rob Pointon is well known across North Staffordshire as a locally based artist who has often been seen painting iconic buildings and landscapes across the area.

Rob’s exceptional talent has been recognised by a host of commissions by high profile collectors including HRH The Prince of Wales, Her Grace The Duchess of Devonshire and numerous private art collectors across the world.Rob works En Plein Air, predominantly in oils, though at the core of his work is his exceptional skill in drawing and use of multiple points of perspective within his observational paintings.

Rob is honoured and delighted to be the Artist in Residence for the Penkhull Festival 2017 and he is greatly looking forward to painting musicians and audiences ~ capturing the exciting atmosphere of this wonderful weekend.
